# Make a dark mode tweet video

X ships two dark themes and most tools offer neither accurately. Dim is navy on #15202b; Lights Out is true black on #000000. Both are here with the exact background, text and divider colours, so a rendered card is indistinguishable from a real dark-mode capture.

True black is the better pick for video specifically: it costs fewer bits to encode than a mid-grey, it looks correct on the OLED screens most people watch vertical video on, and it avoids the compression banding a dark gradient tends to produce.


## Questions

### What is the difference between Dim and Lights Out?

Dim is navy on #15202b with softer contrast. Lights Out is pure black on #000000 with #e7e9ea text, which is what X uses on OLED.

### Why does black encode better than grey?

Flat black areas cost very few bits and show no banding, so more of the bitrate goes to the text where it matters.

### Can I get a dark card if my own X theme is light?

Yes. The theme is a render setting here and has nothing to do with how X is configured on your device.
